About the Image(s)

The photo was captured east of Livingston, Montana near the Yellowstone River on a recent fly fishing trip. It was tough to stay focused on fishing with the magnificent Montana skyscape. However, I had a stellar fishing day and captured some gorgeous photos!!

EOS 5R, RF 24-105, ISO 100, 24mm, f/13, 1/200 sec. Basic edits in LR, then into PS. I added a luminosity mask to darken the greens, then a spotlight mask to make it glow. I added a touch of sharpening and denoise in Topaz DeNoise.

Beautiful image, Kaylyn. Somewhat unusual and dramatic cloud formation which gives a nice diagonal line heading toward the tree; the tree, in turn, seems to be the radiating source of the clouds, almost like the burning bush in the bible. Great natural color palette, not overly saturated. Perhaps leave a little more room on the bottom? With the fishing and the photos, looks like you cashed in on a one-two parlay!   Posted: 07/12/2021 05:02:58

Lovely composition Kaylyn, although I think you could have captured a few more inches on the right, which would show more of the beautiful clouds. I agree with Jerry on the way the clouds design point to the direction of the tree. I also think that a little brightening would liven the scene a great deal.   Posted: 07/12/2021 16:46:05

Very pretty image. I agree with Joe that it would help to brighten it slightly. I also suggest working with the clouds to boost the whites so that they pop in the blue sky.   Posted: 07/13/2021 08:29:28

This is a beautiful landscape. Interesting how just a tree and some clouds can make such a striking image.
I made a Photoshop curves adjustment to your image, and it may be a little too much, but it does pop.   Posted: 07/15/2021 13:43:33

I just realized that your composition fits the Golden Spiral, also called the Fibonacci Spiral. I was reading an article today about the Spiral in PictureCorrect, and when I opened your image - there it was!   Posted: 07/19/2021 11:14:13

I have heard of the spiral before, it works beautifully when you finally see it in a scene. I hope you share your article.   Posted: 07/20/2021 17:24:16

Peggy - could you put more information on the Golden Spiral in our Bulletin Board section? Sounds interesting.   Posted: 07/19/2021 16:55:06

I have posted the link to the article from PictureCorrect on the Bulletin Board section. Can you notify our group to look there?   Posted: 07/21/2021 14:58:32

The image I saw on my MAC screen was similar to what Peggy posted. I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered a BenQ monitor, so hopefully future photos I submit will mirror what I see on the monitor. Thanks so much for your feedback!! It helps me continue to grow!   Posted: 07/20/2021 17:29:06
