About the Image(s)

Though I called this a barn, it was probably a grain mill. It was taken during the tour to Steptoe Butte at the 2019 PSA Conference in Spokane.
It was shot on a miserable cold rainy day so I did a Sky Replacement in Photoshop. I didn't do much else but the sky change seems to brighten up the ground and the building. I sharpened it a little as well.

I like your sky replacement. It's perfect for the scene and sets a great mood. There are a few artifacts left over from the power lines that should be cleaned up. But you have created a much more appealing image. Nice work.   Posted: 06/04/2021 16:25:38

Thanks. If you are speaking of the white off the roof, I've tried to get rid of it and nothing seemed to work. I'll see if there is something else I can do.   Posted: 06/04/2021 23:38:34

Yes that was one and there's also a bit of black on the left edge.   Posted: 06/05/2021 05:00:33

Rework with the suggested corrections. Did I get them all?   Posted: 06/05/2021 12:33:33

There does seem to be a faint glow around the upper part of the building. Not sure if that was in the original sky.   Posted: 06/07/2021 05:53:38

Or, is that what you meant when you referred to the 'white off the roof?' If so, you can select the building, invert the selection and use a soft, broad clone brush to cover the white.   Posted: 06/07/2021 05:58:38

There was a little white portion of the holder from the phone wires on the roof. I do see the halo though...thanks, I hadn't noticed that.   Posted: 06/07/2021 16:07:19

Great capture of a wonderful old barn. I'm late to the comments but like others I did notice the brown tinge around the roof. Looks like the edits that Jerry made fixed the problem.   Posted: 06/08/2021 13:28:17

Marti, Thanks for your comment on my soccer poster. I thought I would check out your group. It looks like you have a lot of good comments and creative ideas in the group. I live in Tacoma, Washington and was in the Palouse exactly a year ago. What a great area with so many beautiful scenes. I like your sky replacement and noticed the problem Peggy broght up. I have encountered with my images from the Palouse. When I zoom in I can see artifacts left of the power lines in the lower left just above the horizon. You can see them even in the last edited version by Jerry. Thanks again for your comments on my poster. By the way, I will be gong back to the Palouse in two weeks. Bruce Benson

Thanks Bruce. I wish the day had been better for our trip or that I could get back out there...maybe someday.   Posted: 06/09/2021 18:18:08

The stormy mood and the aged wood, sure says: "old". This new technique of replacing skies is very good, but I believe that the halo that it may form around subjects, is characteristic of it and something to be aware of.   Posted: 06/09/2021 18:16:06
