About the Image(s)

Some time ago we visited San Diego’s Old Town, which now contains many very good restaurants and shops. This is one of the restaurants that we came on “ “ an old Mexican cantina. I thought that the architecture and foliage made this an interesting photo opportunity so I took it. The weather was very cloudy in the day was not particularly good for shooting architecture. To post process the image I cropped it to concentrate on the foliage and entrance. I did some manipulation in saturation and adjusting contrast levels. Then I took the image into Studio 2 and added a grunge filter to give it a more authentic antique appearance and an enhanced the detail significantly to bring out the texture of the wood on the fence and the pots. Bringing it back into Photoshop I then modified the levels again and played around a bit with saturation and vibrance. I also took out several small distracting portions of the image and was left with this product.

This is really nice Al. I like the way you have finished it. It's very natural looking. You have some blurring down in the left corner that's a little distracting - I guess from trying to remove those 2 little dogs. I think you could have left the larger white one in, and that would have made your task easier. Also, is it just me or does this tilt to the left? Nevertheless, I do like the image very much, and especially the way you enhanced the color.   Posted: 05/05/2021 15:43:24

Thanx. Yes it does tilt but I thought the slant and straight shot at the door made it a little inviting.   Posted: 05/06/2021 08:31:08

Just personal preference, but the yellow cast might be a little bit too much. I like the line that starts at the wagon wheel and pot at the lower left and follows the curve of the 'horseshoe wreath' around the top and down to the pots on the lower right, and this forms a nice frame leading the eye to the doorway. Maybe a little too heavy handed on the vignetting, but overall a well done picture.   Posted: 05/07/2021 06:55:55
