About the Image(s)

here is "New Year" . This was taken on a bridge where you can see the Turku harbor on the left and a small headland of residential area on the right. I was fascinated by the sharp difference between the cold white sparkle of the harbor and the warm cozy lights of the homes. I cropped it to panorama format and tried to emphasize the difference by decreasing the saturation and increasing the lightness of the few colors in the harbor, and increasing the saturation of the yellows of the homes in Capture One 21. Fuji XT-2, tripod. Aperture priority, f 22 (for the starbursts - did not work very well though), ISO 1600, 7.5 s. - Would it have been better to leave some yellow and blue in the harbor scene?

Peter, I love the sense of movement that you have created in this picture which works well. The circular, radial zoom, twirl effect draws me in to the young girl who is perfectly positioned off-centre on the upper right-hand third. Her expression, with hands on her face and looking upwards to the sky adds to the overall visual story. There is almost a sinking feeling to the picture.   Posted: 01/07/2022 11:15:25

Hi Brian, Thank you for your helpful words. Please note that the original "About the Image" originally posted, had nothing to do with this image. My correction is posted below.   Posted: 01/11/2022 23:43:30

Due to an inadvertent error the "about the Image(s)" is incorrect. Please ignore the original description and substitute the following:

Sometime in 2012 I was testing a new, (for me), lens and saw this cute toddler. After getting permission I shot about six images, non of which were anything more than record shots for a family album. I kept it in my "not a great image, but maybe one day," collection. The reflection was taken in about two years later and became part of the same collection. Late last year I was browsing through that collection, a started to play. I felt something more was needed: I did a content aware expansion; played with radial blur; and added a mild spherical distortion of a selectively erased toddler. All comments appreciated.

Peter, This reminds me initially of a fetus in a womb, protected and buffered by the mother. I like your positioning of the little girl, and the way she is swaddled in the circular colors the whip around her. Her hands on her face seem to add to the feeling of protection. Nicely done.   Posted: 01/15/2022 16:06:01

Peter, Just a comment about the misplaced comments. I'm not sure what happened, but I had a lot of problems with this round. I think PSA was updating something and possibly, it affected our setup. I had pictures from another group show up. as well as what happened to your comments. Hopefully, by next time it will b working correctly.   Posted: 01/15/2022 16:10:32
