Blues on the Farm by Brian Swinyard, PPSA

September 2021 - Blues on the Farm

About the Image(s)

I took this image in 2016 at a Blues Festival near Chichester and this person was the lead singer in a country-and-western band. I used it as one of the images in an Audio Visual sequence by the same name and incorporated it with one of the creative dissolves available in the software I use (Pictures To Exe AV Studio 10 Pro). This is a screen shot from the AV sequence.

Brian,
You image of the blues singer is so perfect. The angle you used with her and the mic being the only subjects is really good photography and excellent cropping technique. Your dissolve brings it into the realm of creative. I had seen these kind of dissolves used previously by one of our former members, who did it herself using photoshop brushes that she imported. I always wanted to emulate that, but have not tried yet. You sound like you have found a program that works well for that effect.   Posted: 09/13/2021 13:34:36

Joan, Thank you for your kind words which are much appreciated. I remember well and admire the work of Nancy Springer who used to use her own home-made brush strokes usually to add a sense of motion to cars. I can't find the one I am thinking of but for the benefit of others in the group who may not be familiar with Nancy's work, I have attached one of her images from May 2017.   Posted: 09/20/2021 03:42:32

Peter, Thank you for your kind words which are much appreciated. At the time of taking the picture, I was drawn not only to the singer's good looks but also to her juxtaposition with the microphone and the effect of the dissolve which seemed to add to the visual story.   Posted: 09/20/2021 03:46:29
