About the Image(s)

The original picture is from the Oregon coast last week. My wife and I are in our RV traveling the perimeter of the United States. I apologize for not contributing the last two months but plan on being active from now on. I took the original picture into Topaz 2 to create a colorful version. Then I took a picture of a fern and wildflower from Northern California and blended them with a variety of filters. I play with the colors until I get them to something that is appealing to me.

Charles, Given that you are travelling the perimeter of the United States, which is a mammoth task in itself, I hope you are keeping yourselves safe and well during this pandemic. Your colour palette is well chosen as it has created the illusion of a cauldron sea of hot, flowing, molten lava. It reminds me of my childhood when I would have a canvas to 'Paint by Numbers'. The essence of the picture for me is the spray of water in the top left quadrant which seems to be spiralling upwards into the heavens. The patch of bright sky top left is a little distracting and draws the eye. Also, I wanted the horizon line to be a little less central in the frame. I have taken the liberty of applying a slight Crop to the image to show what I mean.   Posted: 06/11/2021 09:36:17

Your final product is very appealing and quite an interesting image. While reading how you made this image, I was wishing there were more images from the steps in the process. I see the influence of the fern image in the rocks and water but not in the sky. I'm wondering if your purpose in adding the the fern image was to add texture? I think your color palette works well and am impressed with the various tones you have in this image. They all work well together. Anyway, I'd love to learn more about your process with this image.   Posted: 06/12/2021 12:38:08

First of all, glad you're participating again, Charles.
I like what you've done with the colors here. It's kind of like molten gold, flowing over and around the rocks. Your composition is excellent, in my opinion. The puple cast in the sky goes so well with the gold colors, complementery. The reduction in the number of colors helps, as well. Simplifies the sky. I have no idea how you worked in the textures and colors of the leaves, but you certainly succeeded. I love the leaf photo, by the way.
Keep on sending in your photos. We await them expectantly.   Posted: 06/14/2021 17:59:32
