Cormorant Skimming by Mike Cowdrey, MPSA

October 2024 - Cormorant Skimming

About the Image(s)

Taken at the usual Straw's Bridge lake, earlier in the month. I suddenly
noticed the cormorant rushing across at speed in the distance. I took a
few hopeful grab shots, and was surprised at the result. I hadn't been
aware that it had lifted itself up and luckily my panning had kept it fairly
sharp, and well within the frame.

Nikon D750, Sigma 150 - 500 (at 500), AP f9, ISO 1250.

Excellent action shot Mike. Really like the way the tail is still in the water. Looks like the image has a slight posterizing effect. It has great visual impact and interest.   Posted: 10/01/2024 17:15:21

More than a tad posterized...makes it more of an arty shot than a true-to-life shot. Not necessarily a bad thing. Nice action catch.   Posted: 10/02/2024 14:55:18

Great action shot, but as Leslie says it is definitely posterized and lacking in fine detail.   Posted: 10/23/2024 20:13:10
