Coloured smoke by Angela Bonner, PPSA

November 2023 - Coloured smoke

About the Image(s)

The smoke for this was taken awhile ago on my Canon R6, 24-70mm lens. f/11, 1/200sec, ISO 100. Taken with a black background and lit from the side to show up the smoke with the incense stick hidden by the bottle. I cropped so only the top of the bottle was showing.

I selected three smoke images and took them as layers into PS. Did some cleaning up on each layer and made sure the BG was black. Then using the blending options I chose colour overlay. Unticked red and blue on one layer, selected the next layer and unticked green and blue and so on for the third layer. Not too sure if I then used a blending option to get all three colours showing. Ended with a thin keyline round the image.

Interesting and very creative. I wondered how it would look as a vertical. I took the liberty of trying. As the artist, your opinion counts.   Posted: 11/13/2023 17:07:45

Very good job!

My only suggestions are to enlarge the border / key line to include the visible part of the neck of the bottle and to bring back some details on the left of the neck (may be clone it from the right)

Interesting workflow. I must try that. Thanks for sharing!   Posted: 11/13/2023 20:40:15

I like the vertical image the best... Like the fact that you also added a very thin white border so that it doesn't float away.   Posted: 11/24/2023 19:30:08
