Water Lily by Marcela Stegemueller

January 2022 - Water Lily

About the Image(s)

Picture taken at our local Water Garden Nursery. Settings were 1/1000 sec. @ F/4.0 ISO 200 at 90 mm. There was a slight breeze blowing. I probably could have lowered my shutter speed to 1/500 and used a F/8, but I wanted to be sure my water lily was sharp and the background blurred.

Hi Marcela,
Beautiful composition. You captured sharp details on the subject lily. Background is nicely blurred. Well exposed. Very calming scene. Well done.

I think you shot it well. If you went to f/8 the flowers in the background would be sharper, but they would still not be sharp. I think it is best to make it look deliberate that you have achieved limited depth of field. You have a feeling of depth without as much distraction as far as I'm concerned.   Posted: 01/07/2022 21:29:16

Hi Marcela,
This is a lovely image of the water lily. The colors are good and the use of 2 flowers in the background gives the image a wonderful sense of depth. I think your settings were just right and shooting at f4 & 1/1000 gave you the depth of field you needed and helped to tame the breeze. Well done!

I think you chose the proper f-stop which nicely blurred the two receding lilies while keeping the main subject sharp. If your lense had a larger f-stop, I would try that also to achieve a softer background.   Posted: 01/12/2022 10:32:11

The beauty of the flower has been well captured and the scene set with the other out of focus blooms.A nice composition   Posted: 01/19/2022 05:02:21
