Drying by John Hackett

October 2021 - Drying

About the Image(s)

I was looking across the river at low tide. The bird had been fishing and was sitting drying its feathers. I liked the bird against the mud.

Hi John - I like the strong diagonal leading line drawing the eye right to the bird. You captured great feather details in the Cormorant - wonderful contrast to the mud. I like the negative space to the right, but you may want to crop it in a bit to reduce the bright water reflections on the bottom right.   Posted: 10/03/2021 16:19:55

I have to agree with the comments about cropping out the water at the bottom, and a touch from the right.   Posted: 10/15/2021 06:49:34

Hi John,
Good composition. Leading lines, shapes, and texture provided a nice setting for the bird. The subject perched on the rock stands out well against the light colored background. Nice story.   Posted: 10/04/2021 09:41:11

Hi John,
I like the composition -- repetition of shapes, leading line to the bird, color harmony and the simple background. You not only captured the sharpness of the bird's feathers, but the movement which makes the picture even more interesting.

I find the two vertical bright streaks of light shining below the wood a little distracting.   Posted: 10/07/2021 10:06:29

Hi John, You did a good job with the composition of the image as well as the exposure. My suggestions are to perhaps crop out the water -I find the reflections distracting and to crop out a bit more of the sand to the right. This should give more emphasis to the bird.
