Northern Blue Iris at Hope Lake, CT by Norm Solomon

June 2021 - Northern Blue Iris at Hope Lake, CT

About the Image(s)

This Iris was growing wild on the shores of Hope Lakeā€”not far from where we live. I was fortunate to be there at about 10:30 AM & the light seemed just right. Using a telephoto lens I was able to isolate the Iris somewhat. I thought the surrounding foliage added a bit of realism to the image.

Nikon z7ii 24-200, 145mm @ f11. 1/250 ISO 2500
Processed in Nikon NX Studio & PS 2021. Editing was minimal - the main thing I did in PS was to correct what was otherwise a bland sky by using the relatively new (& easy to use!) sky replacement filter.

Hi Norm, The design on this iris is so beautiful. I guess that is where the intricate silk fabric details originate. To my eyes, the replacement sky fits well with the image. I like all of the greenery except the triangular green leaf on the left upper corner.   Posted: 06/07/2021 17:55:20

Hi Norm,
Lovely image. The colors are stunning. It is well exposed, and the Iris is very sharp. The leaves provide a nice frame for the flower. Well done.   Posted: 06/09/2021 19:45:59

First off thank you for telling us about the 'sky' replacement filter. You have made good use of it in the background of the flower. While I like the flower and the greenery I find the fact that one petal is just cut off by a leaf.   Posted: 06/14/2021 03:55:41

Really nice presentation of the iris. I like the background you used to emphasize the flower itself.   Posted: 06/17/2021 09:00:34
