Red Winged Blackbird by Norm Solomon

May 2021 - Red Winged Blackbird

About the Image(s)

Z7ii z70-200 @ 400mm w/2x F8 1/1000 ISO 1250-Processed & cropped in Nikon NX Studio,PS & Topaz DeNoise

This blackbird was in mating season at a local wildlife preserve. I was far away from the bird & knew that even with a 400mm I would not be able to fill the frame with it. So I decided to wait & see if I could catch the bird ‘in action’ singing its song in its habitat & I got lucky. I wanted to capture the pure joy of the bird & hopefully I succeeded.

Hi Norm,
Yes, you succeeded in capturing a beautiful singing bird that made me smile😊. The branches provided leading lines to the subject. The green budding leaves complemented the black/red bird. My only suggestion would be to crop a little off the left side of the image just to the left of the main branch.   Posted: 05/08/2021 10:40:43

The bird's background is sparse enough not to be distracting and as Barbara mentioned, the green complements. The branch on which he sits is at a diagonal which is more interesting and also serves as a leading line. Kudos for catching him actually singing and in his natural habitat.   Posted: 05/13/2021 14:49:11

A well caught moment with the bird singing away . The branches make a nice background The growing greenery tells us the time of year and sets the scene. I like the position within the frame slightly left and room in front to sing into.   Posted: 05/14/2021 08:12:52

You did capture the bird singing beautifully, but if it were my image I would do a real tight crop on the main subject.   Posted: 05/14/2021 11:49:34
