The graduation speech by Jim Hagan

January 2022 - The graduation speech

About the Image(s)

My grandson graduated from the University of Toledo about nine years ago. The commencement program was long and the key note speech was not particularly interesting. I photographed the entire venue both for a historical record but also to get my camera settings for the time when my grandson received his diploma. Our daughter and family were sitting next to me when I noticed they were not enjoying the speech, nor was I. So, I quickly photographed their lack of interest. Then in Photoshop I blurred the background layer, selected just the family for the top layer and then combined the two images.

You have done a great job in isolating the boredom from the actual lecture. I would have liked to have seen the original images. Good creativity!

A wonderful character study apturing two yawns at the same moment and the othertwo glued to their mobile phones. It is a candidate for entry into exhibitions which have a people section.   Posted: 01/12/2022 06:37:18
