About the Image(s)

This image combines originals from 3 locations; the coyotes from a curio shop in Cave Creek, AZ, a park scene from Saguaro NP in Tucson, and the moon from my home in Maryland. When I shot the coyotes I didn’t have a finished image in mind. After isolating the figures and the moon, I combined them with a flipped version of the background to make the shadows more authentic. A variety of layers to make the scene more night-like and some selective addition of shadow to some of the cactus were the finishing touches.

Terrific Shot. It takes quite a bit of imagination to have the coyotes baying at the moon, and then add the combination of the darkened landscape. It all works beautifully. I did wonder if the landscape was a trifle too dark, but on a second look I think that it is just right!   Posted: 07/05/2021 12:37:12

Extremely clever ! Maybe give a bit more color and light to the background   Posted: 07/08/2021 14:28:04

Great idea, well executed.   Posted: 07/09/2021 07:57:45

I do think the cyotes and the sky work well, but I think the middleground landscape is just too cluttered and needs something a little simpler, maybe just a couple of those large desert cactus. There are also some colour shifts to the right of the coyotes which trouble me.   Posted: 07/12/2021 09:41:11

I can see where a simpler background may be less distracting--thanks for the suggestion, Ian.   Posted: 07/13/2021 19:19:01

I think this is very imaginative and worthwhile persevering with. I would be tempted to lighten the landscape, which to me just looks underexposed and "muddy". One might expect it to be lighter anyway due to the large moon. Yes. possible a simpler landscape might work better. But a good try.   Posted: 07/15/2021 08:43:06
