About the Image(s)

Near Toledo is Sauder Village where they have created a 1910 pharmacy which includes a soda fountain. I photographed the fountain with a 24mm lens, at 1/40, f 7.1 and ISO at 400. I thought my original image was interesting but that it was too “busy.” In Photoshop I selected just the soda fountains and related parts, converted them to mono and used a filter which added an outline to those parts. Then I blurred the background and cropped the image so that the fountains were more prominent.

The original image is fascinating and I think that by isolating the pumps you have improved the picture successfully. Could you tell me what filter you used to create the outline, please, as I would like to try it! Great job!   Posted: 05/08/2021 04:11:46

I set up a new layer and used a Topaz 2 heavy metal filter which I applied at about 70%.   Posted: 05/13/2021 06:32:40

I think you did a great job isolating and emphasizing the pumps, really iconic of a soda fountain.   Posted: 05/08/2021 07:47:55

That is a really effective treatment you have applied to the pumps which has provided a detailed effect which is not apparrent in the original. A slight crop off the top edge would remove most of the bright ara top left.   Posted: 05/10/2021 03:28:36

In creating The Soda Fountain, I did not like my color version or my mono version. So, in my final version I had one layer in Photoshop in mono and another layer above it in color which I kept at 55% to allow the mono version to dull the colors. And in the top layer I had just the soda fountain items which I kept in the original color and added a slight amount of Topaz heavy metal filter. I also cropped the image much tighter. Thanks for your suggestions.   Posted: 05/13/2021 06:36:07

Good job done. Isn't is often that we miss details in our image that someone else sees. Well done for responding to the comments of members.   Posted: 05/13/2021 08:34:24
