Bubbles and shadows by Joan Field, FPSA

March 2025 - Bubbles and shadows

About the Image(s)

How I Did It: This was originally a ,metal sculpture taken at the deYoung art museum in San Francisco.. The artist was Ruth Asawa who died in 1013. Part of her artwork were the interesting shadows that were created by the sculpture. Anyway took a number of photos but this one was of special interest. It was doing my time of bing enamored of spheres and I copied the sculpture and apprised the sphere filter that I had found, already discussed last time. Tiss was the time I was enamored of spheres, and created three of them in different layers and sizes. It just looked lake a complexCombination, which I liked.. Tell me your impressions, thanks.

Using three spheres balances the image so well. I just find it a bit flat and would like to see a little more contrast.   Posted: 03/10/2025 13:34:21

I prefer this bubble image to last month's landscape. I tried Ian's idea, and it changes the mood, but I don't know if I feel that it makes it better, simply different. There do appear to be artifacts along the top edge that should be cleaned up. I didn't clean mine either.   Posted: 03/14/2025 12:00:38

Very creative - I like it! I agree with Ian and Bob regarding contrast and artifacts but other than that...fun image to study.   Posted: 03/14/2025 13:43:30

Thanks for showing me something else. It has a bit more pizazz than the original. My eyesight is too bad to see artifacts, so they may show up in other images as well. I am pretty far into adult onset macular degeneration and am trying to participate as as long as I can.   Posted: 03/20/2025 21:14:37

Your comments this month are immensely helpful and inspire me to take more time with my images for this group. I hope your eyesight has been accurately diagnosed and treatment is available to slow the progression. Good luck.   Posted: 03/22/2025 15:00:45

I like the way you have made the spheres different in size giving an effect of depth. There is a story here, and questions. Is this a scene from outer space with a planet consuming entity closing in? Or is it a deep sea scene where the strange inhabitants of the deep are in their continual life cycle? This is a treat for the eyes and the imagination.   Posted: 03/21/2025 07:34:22
