Signal Mountain Overlook by Glenn Rudd

May 2022 - Signal Mountain Overlook

About the Image(s)

In May 2021, my shooting venue was Grand Teton National Park. Our photography workshop group was based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. For each of the five days, we departed at 5:00 AM for the drive to the park. Our subjects were the wildlife and the spectacular scenery.

This scenic view from Signal Mountain was taken with my iPhone 12 Pro. I was very pleased with the 12 MP image.

Glenn, this is a great image from your phone and shows just what's possible with them. Some good lead-in lines both left and right and an excellent depth of field. If you did want to adjust any aspect of it I would suggest that you tone down the ends of the fence poles as the rather orange colour hits you straight away and you want to be drawn further away than that. It looks to have been a brilliant day and the sky very blue so maybe playing with the saturation might help make it less bold. And one other thing I have just noticed but maybe completely wrong - does the image slope up to the right a little at the horizon?   Posted: 05/07/2022 03:06:04

Thanks Peter. Good suggestions. Hard to get a "true" horizon in this vista.   Posted: 05/07/2022 09:30:36

Glenn, all that was missing was the horse! You certainly have a few hanging around your image folders, right? This simple composition has a very pleasing feel about it.Great lead into the trail and those fences keep us on the right track.   Posted: 05/07/2022 16:08:38

Really well done. The fence and path invites the viewer to walk along it. I am anticipating to see more of the mountain view to the right as I go down it. Now why do I want to buy a new camera? :)   Posted: 05/08/2022 15:53:33

The sky and mountains are beautiful. I like the leading lines of the fences taking me into the image. Instead of settling on the mountains, my eye keeps coming back to the dirt path, and especially the paved section at the bottom of the image, because they are so much brighter. I think the image would benefit from cropping the paved section out (and perhaps the first fence post on the right), darkening the path, and brightening the scenery beyond the fence to make them more dominant in the picture. I took a "shot" at it myself - hope you don't mind.   Posted: 05/09/2022 00:19:25

It is great when all the elements come together for us when we are out taking pictures.Great location and scenery coupled with good light and a nice blue sky with interesting cloud formations, what more could we need. I like the way we are led into the scene by the path and its railings. although I am not too sure we need the post on the right edge.   Posted: 05/16/2022 07:12:25
