About the Image(s)

This photo was taken 3 years ago at Sossusvlei in Namibia. Its a "dead end" drainage basin for the Tsauchab River - which hardly ever has water in it.

The dunes are orange because of the high iron content. There are dead camelthorn trees, 600 to 700 years old, which have been scorched black by the sun.

You can go online and see many photos of this area - but one thing you won't see are the puddles on the ground shown here. The day before our visit there was a once in a generation rain. More than a year's worth of rainfall (typically 4 inches) fell in a day. The gravel road ends about 6km from this site. >From there you drive in the dry riverbed, except it wasn't dry. In spots, one of the guides had to walk ahead of the 4 wheel drive truck we were in, with water up to his shins to make sure we could pass. All this illuminated only by headlights since we wanted to get there for sunrise. The sand color varies depending on where drainage and the sun have dried it out. Processed in Lightroom and Photoshop. While almost all other photos I took here had a cloudless bright blue sky, for some reason this one was gray, so I replaced the sky with a blue to match the others in photoshop. I intentionally oversaturated the colors somewhat to create more of a graphic arts image. I intend to print as a 3foot by 6foot for wall mounting.

I really like the drama in this caused by the shapes and colours and it will make a fantastic wall display. There is something almost surreal about it and I can see why you are pleased with it. I cannot suggest anything which would I'm prove this other than completely altering your intention - which would be pointless!   Posted: 07/07/2021 07:58:07

Sheldon, this is an easy review - "Wow!" A definite wall hanger!   Posted: 07/07/2021 12:28:09

Love the surreal, abstract mood of this image. The contrast of the dead trees against the bright colors is very dramatic. Good work!   Posted: 07/13/2021 08:11:31

A dramatic scene. I like the colours and the way you have composed the picture. All those dead trees yet we have a few spots of green coming through.   Posted: 07/16/2021 05:18:22
