About the Image(s)

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to take pictures of brides I come across while visiting far away places. For this image, I decided to explore the possibilities of using Luminar 4 Face Enhancement tools to enhance this bride’s features and create a portrait that she might use in her bridal album.

Taken with my Nikon D 5200 on Manual Mode, Lens 55-200; Focal Length 200mm, Speed 1/640 sec., F/6.3, ISO 200.

Post processing Photoshop Basic adjustments. I removed the grooms arm, turned into a black and white using sliders to adjust color. Next I into Luminar 4 were I explored the use of the face enhancement tools: Enlarged eyes, Slimmed Face and added the Face Light, Dark Circles Removal and Al Skin Enhancer. Finally I went back into Photoshop to do some additional work on skin tone and lines under eyes. Finally, I vignetted with white and added the thick white frame to give the effect that the image is part of an album.

My questions: Does this work as a black and white image? Is the image 'wedding album worthy'?

Brides are radiant and so make good subjects. You know me, I prefer color. The world is not black and white, especially not brides. Some people consider wedding photos photojournalism and would not accept shape changes. That said it is a well-done enhancement you can be proud of.   Posted: 08/07/2022 21:53:42

A dramatic high-key photo with an ethereal quality, yet with great detail. My only suggestion would be to crop the right of the frame a bit so the bride's lovely eyes are looking more into the picture space rather than out of it.   Posted: 08/10/2022 15:40:53

Hank, I agree 100% with you crop suggestion! I can't believe how it enhances the image. Thanks for taking the time to show me the difference it makes.   Posted: 08/14/2022 20:51:05

Nice image. The image is sharp and has good lighting. The high-key nature of the image has made some of the details in hair and dress a little compromised. What about trying a little level adjustment?   Posted: 08/12/2022 15:32:42

Thanks Mohanan, I did realize that I had lost detail in the hair and dress but I did not change it because I wanted to keep the skin texture I achieved. Can someone suggest a way I could enhance the dress and hair but keep the skin with its bright soft focus?   Posted: 08/14/2022 20:54:29
