About the Image(s)

This field in western Colorado was harvested twice -- first for ears of feed-corn, and then, after the stalks had dried for another month or so, they were cut and baled for silage. Hence, a double harvest which was beneficial on both counts. The large bales remain scattered across the far edge of the field. This view is to the north, with the morning Sun to the right. High thin clouds resulted in rather diffuse and flat lighting, as evidenced by the absence of strong shadows in foreground detail. I chose a low camera angle to provide both close-up intimacy and a sense of great open space beyond. My editing efforts focused on heightening contrast to accentuate the furrows and to dramatize the winter clouds billowing above the distant hills. I boosted clarity and used the exposure, contrast, black, and highlight sliders in Lightroom 6 to achieve the result I wanted. Nikon D810 on tripod, Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 lens at 90mm. ISO 200, f/14, at 1/500th second.

A classic texture and perspective shot. Good postprocessing enhancement. A person or farm implement might make for more interest.   Posted: 08/07/2022 21:52:34
