About the Image(s)

In early summer I often drive to a near town to look at young storks in a nest on a roof. This are two sisters. I like their "friendly" position.

Nikon P900 at 1000 mm on built in lens, shutter priority 1/800, F5.6, Processing: crop, contrast improvement with highlights, levels and curves in Photoshop Elements, selective sharpening with Nik.

Good shot of the two birds. Small improvement would be softer light without harsh light and shadows. Lightroom lightening shadows and darkening the blown out white would help.

Great photo as it is.   Posted: 06/06/2022 21:10:48

Bogdan, how exciting to capture the sisters together! Their pose gives us a hint to their personalities. For me, I feel that the hight of the nest in the original adds interest to the image. I am also wondering if you might be able to get more details in the back portion of the wings using the Dodge tool.   Posted: 06/10/2022 13:47:01

A heartwarming portrait of the bigger sister seeming to put her wing around her smaller sibling. Maybe it's just an example of a human attributing feelings to the bird, but heartwarming nonetheless. I think that Topaz AI Sharpen would give you better sharpening.   Posted: 06/10/2022 16:25:50

Nice composition and effective crop. I agree with comments about the balance of light and shadow, but it's obvious you've already done some remedial work in that realm, perhaps to the limits of your software's ability to do so without generating a bunch of noise. Could it be sharper? Perhaps, but a built-in lens with an extreme (83X) zoom range like the one in the P900 encompasses a lot of optical compromises. Add to that the limitations inherent to a smaller sensor and the effects of heat shimmer when shooting through a lot of air at 1000mm. I think you've done very well, Bogdan.   Posted: 06/11/2022 13:17:15

Good shot of the birds. I liked the action of the right bird. Your post processing is good. After the crop, the surrounding doesn't look like a nest. To me, the image lacks good sharpness, as I expected a more sharp image from you!!!   Posted: 06/15/2022 05:10:10
