About the Image(s)

I attended a wedding last month and was thrilled about capturing a picture of the bride as she walked up the steps to the chapel where it was to be held. The sunlight was behind her and although the background was less than perfect, I felt that the lighting was perfect. Taken with my Nikon D 5200 on Manual Mode, Lens 55-200; Focal Length 62mm, Speed 1/400 sec., F/6.3, ISO 320. Post processing included selecting the bride and flowers and then selected "inverse" before blurring the background. I then proceeded to copy and paste muted versions of the bouquet around the bride. I wanted the image to have a dreamy effect, so added an all over softness to the image. Finally, I cropped and added the final vignette.

Hi Terry. Great photo of the bride. You did have an awful background to work with. In your copy, the bride appears to be carrying the potted plant full of flowers. I think I would have lost the flowers completely if you had isolated the bride and her small bouquet. If you placed her on an opaque background with a soft fog-look over the bride and your final vignette, dynamite!   Posted: 11/10/2021 17:32:31

Terry, you have made the first perfect step to capture that nice image in contra light. Your processing of background is the second perfect step. You have really got the dreamy effect. I like your image very much.   Posted: 11/20/2021 16:15:10

I think it's very creative what you did with the muted versions of the flowers and does give the dreamy look you were seeking, but I think the white vignette is too much, and I think that the flower pot should be removed from next to her hand holding the bouquet. I also like Bud's suggestion of the opaque background with soft fog look.   Posted: 11/20/2021 16:18:57

Thanks! I definitely work on the fog/vignette. Actually, there is no pot next to her. What you see in the image is her bouquet.   Posted: 11/22/2021 08:18:35

Very nice image with a dreamy look. I liked your post processing. The background work is interesting. I feel the vignette is too strong. Yes, the pot next to her hand is a distraction.   Posted: 11/22/2021 02:45:01

A fairy tail like beautiful bride including the modest downward look. Excellent processing of the background enhances that. I would de-saturate the pink band on the flowers as it does not look realistic. The white vignette is a distraction. Black would be better. Excellent.   Posted: 11/22/2021 17:53:52
