About the Image(s)

Taken 2021 08/16 09:52. Coal Oil Beach. Santa Barbara, CA. USA
Canon EOS 5DSR Camera with Canon EF100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM. 400mm, 1/1500 sec, f/8, ISO 500. Hand held. Lightroom: Crop, level, nothing else.

I went to this beach to take photos of at-risk plovers. None of them was exceptional. There was a quite competent surfer and got a number of good pictures of surfing. But, I like the humorous story of this one.

Interesting image. The image tells a story. Your cropping looks good to me. The image is sharp. You have caught the action at the right moment. May be a fraction of seconds before this moment with clear view of the head of the surfer would have been better.   Posted: 09/19/2021 10:13:04

Good story of what it's like to be a surfer, but I too would prefer to see a face.   Posted: 09/19/2021 16:09:29

Pretty funny. Not a very good surfer. He would not do well in Hawaii.   Posted: 09/19/2021 19:42:06

Bud,

I'm glad you see the humor intended. Actually the surfer was competent and I have good photos of his performance, without the humor.

Wow....thanks for including the image of his surfing competence. I am wondering if there is any way you might turn the two images into a double exposure? Your settings and capture of the action in both images is spot on. I do agree that including some part of his head (face) would improve the image.   Posted: 09/20/2021 11:42:54

Interesting photo but hardly recognizable, what's on it.The surfer is oriented away from you. Yes, the image is sharp and good lighted.

I too love action shots but the original and its post processing is all about the water and not the surfer. The image you posted in the comment section is fantastic. In this shot we don't need to see the surfer's face because I see a guy with only one foot on the board who is doing all he can just to remain standing. To me this is a much more interesting shot. There is enough rough water to show his skill level.
Great capture.   Posted: 09/22/2021 15:34:43
