About the Image(s)

I captured this lady on the streets of NYC couple years ago on a summer afternoon. I only took one shot of her since I didn’t get permission from her as she glanced over me. I decided to remove the mailbox since I want the attention focus on the lady. Nikon D7000 with a 50mm lens, aperture priority. Edited in the Snap seed mobile app.

Linda, nice capture and certainly befits the title. People are so interesting. I can't decide if I like it with or without the mailbox. It isn't distracting per se, it does fill that large red space on the left ...   Posted: 07/12/2021 11:09:16

Majority of my street photography, I may only have a chance for one shot. I'm very pleased how I cropped the image as I took it. I usually like to have my main subject to stand out. Therefore I found the mailbox is somewhat a distraction. However if my subject matter is about the mailbox. I probably would create an entirely different image. Thanks so much for your comments Jeri!   Posted: 07/16/2021 19:45:26

Hi Linda, she seem to look straight in the viewers eyes through those cool red glasses. A great background and a wonderful bold color contrast with the soft shadows. I vote for removing the mailbox. I like very much the lock on the left: it gives a special context, and tension, and I think that it also balances the composition. A wonderful street photo!   Posted: 07/12/2021 13:00:35

I agree that the mailbox should be removed as I had explained to Jeri. Glad you like it and thank you very much for your input Kirsti!   Posted: 07/16/2021 19:59:30

Hi Linda, I love the bold, striking colors of this image and the sharp outline of her clothes against the red door. I think it really helped that you removed the mailbox and door lock as it creates more space for her, so that she does not look trapped in the corner. Also appreciate that you removed the mark (tattoo ?) on her right elbow. The soft light really helps the image. Good job!   Posted: 07/18/2021 16:09:49

Hi Billy, Thanks for your input. You're the most observant that you even noticed me removed her tattoo on her right elbow. I had thought about whether to remove the door lock or not, but decided to leave it as a point of reference that she's standing in some neighborhood street corner and also it frames the image. I'm glad you like it. Linda   Posted: 07/18/2021 17:18:42
