Grasses in Geyser Basin, Yellowstone NP by Joan Field, APSA

July 2021 - Grasses in Geyser Basin, Yellowstone NP

About the Image(s)

Last time I was there I found a pond near one of the geyser basins. I no longer can remember if I reversed the image, maybe. Anyway, I liked the simplicity of it. The little light sparks are probably from the water behind it. I reduced the noise. I can't remember how I got that nice gradation from the top to the bottom, but, hey, it's my image for the month.

Joan, I really enjoy it. Reminds me of fire flies in the background. I like how it is black and white, adds a misty quality to it.   Posted: 07/06/2021 17:27:54

Joan: I too enjoyed the simplicity of the Image. The tiny light sparks in the sky really enhance the photo. I think you have a winner here.   Posted: 07/10/2021 21:59:32

I love it, too. The graphic simplicity, calm tones and perfect balance are immensely satisfying. The sharp foreground and the soft gradation of the background give it a sense of depth. It makes me think of first snow falling on a misty lake, and I could sit and watch it for hours.   Posted: 07/12/2021 13:22:32

I love this photo with my first glance! It's the simplicity that makes this monotone image stands out. Everything is proportionally balance. The water droplets behind can also be interpreted as twinkle little stars with the reflections of the water. Beautiful image Joan! Linda   Posted: 07/16/2021 22:09:11

Hi Joan, I like the simplicity of this image which is emphasized by your choice of black and white. The sparkles of light add a lot to it, particularly as they contrast against the dark gradient. The antique border is a nice touch.   Posted: 07/18/2021 15:57:19
