About the Image(s)

I was in India in November and went to the Keoladeo National Park as part of a driving trip through Rajasthan. I was mesmerized by the massive colony of Painted Storks I saw. Their distinctive pink feathers give them the name.
They nest colonially in flocks in shallow waters, mixing with other waterbirds.
And I learnt that breeding is always in large trees in protected areas.
I took many pictures of individual storks, but the one I liked the best showed the colony of Starks. I also included a single one as background - you let me know what you prefer if I were or print and frame one!

Shot with Canon EOS R5, handheld.
1/800 at f/14 ISO800
200 mm (RF 70-200 f.2.8 L IS USM lens)

Minimal editing, adjusted exposure and blacks and whites.

Hi Gloria,
This is such a great story of the life of these Painted Storks. I like how you have framed the single stork with the two trees hosting a colony. I think the entire scene tells a story worth framing.
They are such gorgeous birds. When I visit Mumbai, I always make it a point to go photograph them in early mornings at dawn when they are still roosting on the trees or at dusk when they are arriving for roosting. Although watching them fish is quite mesmerizing as well. They can gobble up several big fish in a short amount of time.   Posted: 02/05/2025 21:43:53

Gloria, the image indeed denotes a very busy wetland and the only bird that is in real focus and standing out is the stork with the pink feathers, which we can see better in your additional image. The image itself is also very busy which distracts somehow with so much information to visualize.   Posted: 02/07/2025 18:10:25

Thanks for feedback Isaac. I guess I wanted to give an idea of the amazing quantity of birds living in the colony - and indeed it is crowded. Maybe better to stick with focusing on just one bird in the future.   Posted: 02/08/2025 23:26:17
