About the Image(s)
I attended this Pow Wow in June 2024. It was located in the Heber Valley, outside of Park City, Utah. The Pow Wow was attended by more than 40 tribal nations from across North America. The images were shot with a Sony 6400, at F5 and a shutter speed of 1/320 and ISO 100. The conditions were harsh mid-day light and very busy backgrounds. The Pow Wow was awash with color and music. Many of the dancer's regalias were family heirlooms or gifts crafted by family members. I used the Triptych format to try to show the viewer the beauty and uniqueness of each regalia. Your comments and feedback are welcome.

Hi Greg,
Beautiful colourful environmental portraits, your decision to post as a triptych works well. Background is handled well in all images. My only criticism is the cutting off the top of the head dress. Other than that great capture from what I imagine would have been a great event with plenty of opportunities   Posted: 10/16/2024 07:41:27

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your comments and feedback. It was a very good event, but they put the visitor in a very tight space. I am attaching the original where I cropped off the headdress. I couldn't get a clean selection, so I cropped in as an alternative. Thanks again for your feedback.   Posted: 10/21/2024 15:23:18

Hi Greg - Your triptych is a rich color forward image that is well balanced and nicely arranged. Depending on what you're going to use the image for, cutting off the head dresses may/may not be an issue. As an artistic choice, I like that both the right and left head dresses are treated equally. My suggestion would be to equally darken the background of the center and left image to match the right to bring to the forefront the main subject in each triptych, create balance, and eliminate any distractions. Nicely done!   Posted: 10/16/2024 19:57:20

Hi Darcy,
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. The cropping of the headdresses was an alternative to not being able to make a good selection. I am posting the other original so the group can see what I was faced with. Thanks again and I agree with your point about creating more balance.
Best regards,

Hi Greg - Great coloring especially considering your comment about mid day harsh light. I like the fact that both of the males are cropped similarly - giving balance to your tryptich - but I agree on the darkening of the background at least of the left photo. It would be nice to see the top of the headdresses, but it also works well with the amount of detail in their clothing.   Posted: 10/17/2024 12:04:44

Hi Greg. That must have been an event with more photographic opportunities than most. The Triptych was a great idea and I really like the fact that the two outer figures are looking towards the middle and the middle figure is looking straight ahead. What beautiful and intricate outfits and your focus is great. I agree that darkening the background on the middle and left figures to match the left figure's background would help the create continuity as well as to separate the figures from their backgrounds. Great work!

Hi Greg,
What a feast of color!
I love how you balanced the three images in your triptych. Your focus is right on and your choice of f5 gives a nice blur to the background and helps your subjects really stand out. I'll add another vote to darken the two backgrounds to help the sense of continuity across all 3 images.
Thanks for sharing!
