About the Image(s)

This is a photo from this past season of Soccer and my first game shooting under the lights. Although I'd love to have the players faces, their body positioning being frozen in time and both being off the ground spoke to me as I was culling all of the images. I did apply some Gaussian blur to the background after some of the feedback from last month.

Hi Erin well caught action shot and as you say shame about not seeing the faces but often that can't be avoided in sports photography. Lighting is good with the background blurred enough to give a sense of the environment, with the main elements sharp where they need to be. A minor suggestion would be to put a vignette around the outer part of the image to draw more attention to the two players. Well caught action shot.   Posted: 09/11/2023 19:11:01

Hi Erin. You've handled this well and I agree that the action captured makes up for not seeing the players' faces. The positioning of the soccer ball is great, and I think that applying a slight gaussian blur to the background was very effective. I love the shadows of the figures on the grass below. Thanks for sharing this! Ingrid   Posted: 09/12/2023 13:44:56

Hi Erin - While I see your point about the player's faces, it doesn't bother me. I am more drawn to the athleticism being demonstrated - look at the height #13 is off the ground! You've stopped the action nicely and caught the physical nature of the sport, the lighting is nicely handled, the background blur is effective and the detail and focus on both players is sharp. I like Tom's vignette suggestion - more on the subtle side I should think. Nice capture!   Posted: 09/16/2023 22:58:27

Hi Erin,
Great capture in a difficult situation. You have certainly caught the moment with great sharpness at the center where the action is and a nice blurred background to set it off.
My only suggestion would be to crop from the top down to that next bench to eliminate the body-less feet at the top.
Great job!
