About the Image(s)

This image is the last in my series from my photoshoot in Westcliff, Colorado. In addition to shooting at the cattle ranch, we also shot some local barns. This image was shot with a Nikon D850 and a 24-70mm lens. The settings were F* at 1/80 of a second and ISO64. The image was over-exposed so I darkened it down to highlight the barn, and bring out the texture in the clouds. Your comments and feedback are welcome.

Hi Greg.
Love this image your processing has definitely brought the eye directly to the main feature which has great clarity and sharpness with the mood betrayed by the darkening clouds, the sidelight on the barn enhances the barn itself and is presented in a lovely light. The only negative comment I have is that there is an apparent minor artefact leftover from your masking on the barnes roof right-hand side that you may want to mask out. All in all lovely image or captured and well-processed thanks for sharing

Hi Greg. I'm a BIG fan of old barns, so I love your subject and the way you've captured the light and the impending storm clouds. The texture of the barn siding is very interesting and gives the barn its own unique character. I like the way you've processed the image and created a dramatic atmosphere. The vignette you've added is also very effective. Did you have the opportunity to shoot any closer up shots of the textures and patterns on the barn's siding? What a treasure trove of material. Too bad there wasn't a antique red truck somewhere in the frame :) Thanks for sharing this very interesting and well-processed image. Ingrid   Posted: 11/15/2021 17:02:31

Ingrid,
Thank you for your comments and feedback. It was a fun photo shoot. I agree, a red truck would have been a nice addition.

Hi Greg - I am going to miss your Westcliff series; you captured some beautiful images and this photo of a lovely old barn is very well done too. Your processing is spot on and enhances the image in all the right places, from illuminating the barn to the saturation in the sky. The textures are rich and vignetting successful, creating a wonderfully handsome image. I have nothing to add that I think would improve the image technically or aesthetically. Nice job!   Posted: 11/15/2021 19:29:35

Hello Gregory,

Beautiful shot! I love the lighting on the barn, juxtaposed against those darkening clouds.

I laughed at Ingrid's comment about the red truck - I was looking for a cow or two!

The only suggestion I might make is that the vignetting is a tad too dark. I always try to adjust my vignettes so that you don't really "see" them, but just "feel" their effect of bringing your eye to the center of attention in your photo. (If that makes any sense.)

Beautiful photo!

Karen,
Thank you for your comments and feedback. I agree a cow or two would have been a nice addition. Thank you for your feedback on the vignette. I also would normally pull it back, but I intentionally left it dark to bring out the drama in the sky.
Best regards,

Hi Greg
Greetings. Apologies for delay comment this edition.
A lovely capture and well managed cropping. The sky/clouds and the green field balancing each other out. The Barn is well focused and I like the way you have chosen the composition. The vignette effect also added up to the subject. Loved it and thanks for sharing.
Cheers.
