About the Image(s)

This image was also taken during a photoshoot at a working ranch in Westcliff, Colorado, in May 2021. The image was shot with a Nikon D850 and a 24-70 f2.8 lens at 70mm. The settings were f2.8, 1/250, ISO 200. I did a little processing in Adobe Camera Raw. I wanted to make it look more dramatic, so I used 2 filters in the Nik Color Efex Pro collection. I used the Bi-Color filter and the Darken/Lighten Center.

I look forward to your comments and feedback.

This is just excellent, Gregory. Filters such as the ones you've used are often used to uninspiring effect, but here, your choice and execution takes the image to another level, adding to an already compelling composition, with the use of silhouette rendering the image all the more effective.   Posted: 09/03/2021 17:47:03

Hi Greg
Strong image, choosing silhouette for this works well, I particularly like your choice to apply what looks like a gradient from the top, dark areas down to the brighter ground level with the lighter area behind the main image giving strength to the silhouette. The detailing in the figures is good however around all the elements there are halos. The choice of just using three riders also adds to the strength of the image as I understand our brains are more attracted to an uneven number of elements. Other than the halos a very strong image which I like. Thanks for sharing   Posted: 09/06/2021 18:48:10

Hi Greg - Although hard to choose, probably my favorite shot to date from your recent Colorado shoot. The silhouette is very nicely done, great use of color and filters, good impact and tells a nice story. A small distraction for me, is that I wish it wasn't left to the imagination that two of the three horses appear to have less than four legs. Otherwise a great shot. You came to Colorado at a perfect time this year!   Posted: 09/10/2021 16:26:39

Greg - this is just wonderful! I love the mood, the interesting silhouettes and the composition. The glowing light created by the filters is amazing. There seems to be just a little bit of a yellow halo around the middle horse's legs, which could easily be eliminated with PShop. Overall, I really love this image!   Posted: 09/11/2021 12:15:26

Hi Gregory, very interesting image, well done. I like the original image, original color tone, especially skylight - moody, mystery, dramatic feel. I don't like the red color - not giving me so much imagination, also I don't like silhouettes images, too flat. This is just a personal choice. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 09/13/2021 08:40:59
