IRIS by Ingrid Lockhart

July 2021 - IRIS

About the Image(s)

This image was taken with a Nikon D 7100 with a 105mm Macro Lens, F2.8, 1/2500/sec ISO400.

This Iris was taken in my garden last week. I was drawn to it because of its vibrant color and the contrast with the greenery in the background. I waited for a moment when there were no shadows to distract and chose the angle to get the full shape of the bloom.

Nice image Ingrid, well captured with that lens. Colour scheme works well with the background not competing with the subject. Having a near symmetrical subject and placing the subject image centre works for this image. Can I suggest a bit more contrast or saturation on the upright front petal, it seems, for my eye, to be a bit insipid compared to the other petals.   Posted: 07/03/2021 04:51:49

Thanks, Tom. I'll see what I can do about the right front petal.   Posted: 07/14/2021 19:01:48

Ingrid,
I like the color palette and the composition of your image. You may want to check, but there appears to be some fringing around the outside of the lower petals. All in all a nice image.
Best regards,

Thanks, Gregory. I will check for the fringing, especially since it's so easily fixed. Guess I should have zoomed in to check before posting. :)   Posted: 07/14/2021 19:03:53

Beautiful flowers, very colorful. I think that the focus is not so good, not sharp, a little grainy. I don't like the composition, too center, and the background is too much empty space.   Posted: 07/09/2021 09:00:05

Hi Ingrid - The blue and purple colors of the Iris are beautiful and offset nicely by the background of greens. The image is sharp where it needs to be and the vignetting adds some dimension. Was there some clean up in the lower right involving the flower's stem? If it were mine, I would crop it a bit tighter. Otherwise a lovely image.   Posted: 07/10/2021 10:43:55

Thanks, Darcy. I'll zoom in and see what's going on with the stem. I did take out some unnecessary plant parts, so maybe I didn't do such a great job. I'll also try to crop in closer and see what that does for it. I appreciate your feedback!   Posted: 07/14/2021 19:07:38

Hi Ingrid,
Greetings.
A lovely image of the flower. The color of the subject and the background color complementing each other. The light works well for this image. The composition looks balanced even though its in the center. Like I mentioned before, the tight frame of this flower always gave you a fulfilling perception if this is accompanied with a extra petal or a "Bud" at the side.
Except some technical detail of this image mentioned by other group members, this is a nice composition. Good work.
Stay safe & stay blessed as always.
Cheers.

I LOVE irises. They were my Mom's favorite flowers, so it helps me to remember her. The color is beautiful and the vignetting really set it off. The only suggestion I would make is to crop in a bit from the right to throw it off-center. I like symmetry, but I don't think it works that well in this instance.

Beautiful image. Thanks for sharing.
