About the Image(s)

This shot was taken in 2013. I like the model’s physical appearance, pose, and environment. Now I redid the post-work and trying to make it look better. I attached my original work. How do you think? Welcome any comments and suggestions. Thanks!

Camera: Nikon D4, Lens 85mm / f1.4, Exposure: 1/250 set at f/13 ISO 200

Hi Xiao,
I think this is one of your stronger images. What a great model and I think you nailed the composition. You also nailed the redo in your post-work. The colors are more vibrant and the texture in the wall and ring add to an already strong image.
Best regards,

Hi Xiao - I think your post processing is spot on. My eye is drawn to the white on the wall and then to the shadows created by the model's arms creating distraction from the overall image. Kind regards -   Posted: 06/04/2021 18:07:12

Hi Xiao
very powerful image captured and processed well, I like your cropping to eliminate the unnecessary foreground and your processing to eliminate the distracting hole in the wall above the model's head and the way you have handled the other distraction just above his shoulder works well. The model has a strong pose and a direct gaze at the camera immediately engaging the viewer to his eyes, the position of the model in the frame also works very well. The supporting bolt and ring matches well with the models colour scheme and look. While the white grouting on the wall is a bit distracting to me it is not a major distraction. Overall a very well presented image.   Posted: 06/04/2021 19:46:06

This is a highly successful portrait, with a great model and a dramatic pose. It is openly sexual, not only with the model's bare chest, but also suggestively showing the start of his hip lines. I find it direct, honest, and not inappropriate.
I have two comments:
1. I think the pose could be better. I find the foot on the wall a relaxed gesture, inconsistent with the tension of the model's musculature. Similarly, his hands are relaxed, also inconsistent with the muscular display of his torso. I think a contrapposto pose would have worked better.
2. The shadow of the ring on the wall forms as a shaft entering a hole. Did you intend this openly erotic symbolism?   Posted: 06/05/2021 15:58:33

This is a very strong portrait. I especially like the way the lighting emphasizes his musculature. You have done an excellent job of eliminating the distracting blotches on the wall without losing the context of the background which gives him a sense of place. The cropping of the foreground to eliminate the extraneous greenery was also an important decision. You might consider darkening the white horizontal splotch on the wall just a bit to put more emphasis on the figure. I'd also consider lightening his eyes to draw more attention to that important part of his persona.   Posted: 06/07/2021 12:29:18

I'm going totally radical here, so keep in mind that it's just my opinion...

The story is in his upper body - he is sexy and intense. You've done a great job highlighting his musculature and capturing the intensity of his gaze. Everything else is just a distraction - the ring, the bush, the white patching on the wall. Why not just get rid of all that and focus on this awesome model?

I did a quick crop to see what everyone else thinks...   Posted: 06/07/2021 16:39:55

P.S. Now that white line through his head is bothering me. Should be an easy fix for someone with better Photoshop skills than I!   Posted: 06/07/2021 16:41:20

Karen - your suggestions and cropping have made all the difference. I don't think that any intensity has been lost, the strong pose and direct gaze remain making for a very powerful image. Such a simple solution too!   Posted: 06/07/2021 17:18:21

Hi Xiao,
Greetings.
A well composed portrait. But the white marks on the wall is a distraction. You may consider to address the white mark. You achieved the good depth of field. The ring on the wall next to him, really added to the image. Overall a nice portrait you have shared. Good work. Cheers.
