May 2022 - Random Shot - Squirrel on a Post

About the Image(s)

I took this picture randomly with a zoom lens. I have a trail camera outside where I catch Raccoons coming into the backyard at night. I put some old bread out there but the squirrel got it the next day. I took multiple shots on my Canon camera and found this one was the best one. I made no changes to the photo in post processing.

I can't stop looking at the shapes! The squirrel's back. His ears! The fence. The contrasty lighting brings them all out so well. And the soft background makes the squirrel and fence stand out even better. This assigned subject turned out a unique image that I never would've thought of taking on purpose. And it tells a story that I keep thinking about! Good choice of images to share with us this month.   Posted: 05/16/2022 07:26:46

I love the lighting in your image. There is good contrast here and the rim lighting highlights the squirrel. I might crop a small amount of the top to give the squirrel more prominence. I tried brightening the image and decided it is more interesting the way you shot it.   Posted: 05/16/2022 09:40:15

Squirrels are the clowns of our back yards. Our Camera Club is having a Scavenger Hunt and 'rim lighting' is one of the things we must find. This would be perfect! Your exposure is perfect, as is your DOF. The backlighting even shows the veins in his ears. Nive shot!   Posted: 05/18/2022 10:26:30
