About the Image(s)

This is a picture I took in July at the WWI Memorial in Kansas City, MO. It overlooks the downtown area. For leading lines, I thought the lines in the lawn were interesting but felt it was taken far away, so cropped it to capture the Union Station area.
1/400 f/3.5 ISO 100.

That is a very nice mowed lawn and it certainly directs my eye. I would perhaps like to see more of the lawn and less of the buidlings. To me i might try a vertical crop to include more of the lawn and crop down from the top to just include the big building.   Posted: 09/05/2021 12:01:03

I wish the person that mowed that lawn came around my neighborhood! I agree with Ally and would have done a much tighter vertical crop. I cropped down to the sidewalk and feel it takes the eye right to the center of interest.   Posted: 09/06/2021 09:49:50

I think this crop is very effective and allows those mowing lines to do the leading.   Posted: 09/19/2021 14:37:46

Newly mowed grass is a perfect example for leading lines. I agree with Ally's comment about including more grass. Actually, your original picture as shot (deleting the sky) would also be an excellent example of leading lines.   Posted: 09/07/2021 11:24:22

Your composition in your original photo presents lots of leading lines. The sidewalks pop out to me first, then the mowing lines. I can see how you wanted to get rid of the big white sky. I'm thinking that the building you're leading us to could be one of the brighter things in the picture. With Lightroom's Adjustment Brush, I brightened Union Station and un-brightened some white areas and came up with my own edited version trying to promote Union Station at the main point of taking the picture. What do you think?   Posted: 09/19/2021 15:36:32

I brightened the entire picture (except darkened sky and other buildings) and gave more life to the green of the grass.   Posted: 09/19/2021 15:37:55

I prefer the cropped version. Yes, the original has the sidewalk as well as the grass, but I have trouble deciding which way to go. I agree with Carole that the main building needs to be brighter. After palying with several ideas, I worked with hue/saturation, emphasizing the yellows and greens, desaturating the blues. Then I added a vignette just to the upper half. My monitor is very bright, so added brightness to the overall image.   Posted: 09/24/2021 09:21:54
