About the Image(s)

Spring in December?!? The Sierra foothills pleasantly warm but alarmingly dry November weather has continued into December. This clump of paperwhite narcissus bulbs has blossomed, attracting some surviving summer insects and my macro lens. Hard sun light brought out sparkling highlights in the petals, which I emphasized by holding down the exposure settings. Suggestions?

Canon 90D, Tamron 90mm macro lens, 1/800s at f/13, IS0 200.

Nicely seen, Allen. The bee is sharp and the flower provides a nice "stage" for it to be performing on. Just for interest, I went back to the original and changed the crop slightly. I also opened up the shadows on the bee a bit to bring out more detail and darkened the flower overall.   Posted: 12/06/2021 12:07:57

Your version is how I saw the bee, but I neglected to retouch it after dimming the global exposure.   Posted: 12/08/2021 22:35:04

A wonderful image with great composition. My only suggestion, as already mentioned by Henry, is to lighten the dark shadow areas of the bee.   Posted: 12/11/2021 12:31:09

It's a wonderful capture of nature. This is your favorite subject, this is for sure. I know. it is very hard to combine little dark parts and great light areas. Though the little subject is moving, you can't take it too long. The only way is to do that with a software - I would agree Henry and Jim. You have chosen the right moment!
