Backyard Dahlia by Diana Duffey

October 2021 - Backyard Dahlia

About the Image(s)

How I Did This: This is one of the dahlias that I planted this year. I took this image next to my
kitchen window. I used my iPhone 12 on a tripod. I used the Photo mode. I adjusted the
exposure slightly.

You took this with a cell phone? I'm going to have to switch to iPhone next time. I think it's really beautiful. I love the swirling lines and the texture in the petals. Lovely.   Posted: 10/11/2021 16:40:00

It looks like a beautiful ballet in the center. Not to copy Donna but I also love the swirling petals.

Cell phone cameras keep getting better and better! I agree - great swirly detail in this sharp image. One small quibble: the petal at lower left is a little too noticeable because (unlike the other petals in the scene) it is cropped off near its tip. It seems (to me at least) that the cropping rule applying to human limbs also applies to flower petals: If you have to crop, do it at the "midpoint" and not near the "tip". For this image, simply crop up a bit from the bottom to move the image edge closer to the petal midpoint.   Posted: 10/18/2021 18:01:42
