About the Image(s)
This photo was taken last month at the San Clemente Pier in Southern California. I used my Nikon D850 with ISO at 1000 (due to overcast day), with 1/60 sec and f/20 70mm. I did replace the very grey sky that even dehazing could not clear up.

I think it's really pretty, although too much sky on top, I would remove a bit.
Also given that the sky indicates there probably was sunlight, I would lighten up the pier a bit - the legs, if that's what they're called, to brighten up the image. Maybe take a little off the left side, too, see what might happen.
Nice image !
Just for fun, I played around with it, here's what came up. It's grainy because your image was so small, but maybe you can see what I was aiming at. (or not)

Thank you Donna this helps. When I submitted the photo to my camera clus they had me crop the beach area. I didn't think of lightening the wood under the pier. I like that.   Posted: 10/12/2021 11:11:56

Lori, I love this image. Like the surf breaking under the pier, like the old weathered leaning piling with the uneven supports and even your sky fits nicely. Since they say that the human eye enters an image from the lower left, I did a horizontal flip. This tends to give you a leading line (the pier) right to the tower. Love it either way. Just my two cents.   Posted: 10/16/2021 07:00:47

A visually interesting pier, and the added sky does complement the image. I agree that it can be cropped a bit from the top. However, I have to disagree with your camera club (sorry!) about cropping out the beach, as I find it chops off too much of the foreground surf. Maybe try a little less cropping here? Also, the image has a somewhat cool color cast. I would consider warming it up to indicate the presence of sunlight.   Posted: 10/19/2021 09:48:11

Great image of the pier and the angle you took it at. Quite a sky. I like the construction detail of the pier shown.   Posted: 10/25/2021 17:35:09

Lori, I really like your image of the pier. Great detail and a nice sky replacement. Well done. I agree , I would crop a little off the top.   Posted: 10/25/2021 21:13:49

The problem with sky replacements is that you have to look twice. Is the pier too light? is the color of the water compatible with the sky (maybe yes, I don't really know what happens at the shore). Anyway, nice image. I would be curious to see the original.   Posted: 10/27/2021 15:03:06
