September 2021 - Giver of Justice

About the Image(s)

I usually don't take photos of pre-existent art other than for record purposes, but this is a bit of an exception. This seated statue of John Marshall, 4th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and a giant in American legal history, stands outside the West Entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and I casually photographed it as I approached the entrance (back in 2013). I shot with my Apple iPhone 5 handheld at f/ 2.4, 1/640 sec and ISO50. Viewing it much later in Photoshop, I noticed the faint rays of sunlight that appeared to radiate from the statue's hands. Using the Adobe Camera Raw filter, I greatly increased the DeHaze setting which strengthened the rays and added vibrance to the clouds. I also cropped up from the bottom and cloned out several distracting details.

I love the idea of it. Wish there was some way for the viewer to know who it is without being told. I love the rays of light, lovely. I would like to see less sky, also the horizon straightened. I fooled around with it and added a layer mask to lighten the statue so we could see more of the details of him.
Lovely sky.   Posted: 09/12/2021 03:45:41

Nice image of the Justice. The rays and the clouds are great. A slight crop from the top would be good. The I5 took a good image. I have a I12 and like the camera but still prefer my mirrorless.   Posted: 09/18/2021 01:14:22
