Succulent by Donna Sturla

June 2021 - Succulent

About the Image(s)

I've been learning how to photograph in Black and white, as opposed to photographing in color and then post-processing.
This was taken at sunset at a nursery nearby. Nikon D7000, Sigma 17-70 mm lens. ISO 1250, F 4.0, 1/125 second at 70mm.

Thank you, Diana ! Too bad you and I don't live closer to each other, I would enjoy shooting with you !   Posted: 06/14/2021 13:45:11

I love most everything about this image. The shading is quite nice. I wish the black tops of the succulent (especially the lower one) was against something lighter. Not sure how this could have been achieved.   Posted: 06/14/2021 11:03:39

Do you think I should have cropped the image to leave out those lower black tops? Maybe put more emphasis on the middle?
Let me know your thoughts, and thank you for your comment !!

If you just have the top showing, I don't think there is enough there. Maybe lighten the central "pedal" against which it is a little, put a reflection on the lower spick in PS.   Posted: 06/14/2021 13:50:06

Not sure what you mean by spick. Is that a typo?

Nice image of the flower. The detail is great. The shadows add to the image.   Posted: 06/15/2021 11:34:30
