Lake McDoanld, Glacier NP by John Larson, FPSA, MPSA2

About the Image(s)

Why I took this image:
After the 2019 Photo Conference in 2019, Ed Lower and I took a side trip to Glacier National Park. The road over the pass was closed for the season (actaully it snowed over one foot during the night after we were there). The shot was originally made into a panorama but when I really looked at it after cropping I decided what you see is the most interesti3ng part of the image.

Camera Settings:
Creation Date (xmp): 2019-09-30T14:50:37.411, Camera Make: Canon, Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D, Original Date/Time: 2019-09-30T14:50:37.411, Exposure Time: 1/1000, Shutter Speed: 1/1000.00, Aperture: 4.97, F-stop: f/5.6
ISO Speed: 100, Lens: TAMRON 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD A010

Post processing:
Normal LR adjustments and leveling plus major cropping of the panorama.

The composition of your image is right on; I particularly like the way my eye is drawn to the cut in the mountains on the left. The cloud detail and texture are both very good and give me a feeling it is going to snow again soon. The nice lake reflection adds to the effect. To me there's a blueish tint to the lower mountains; maybe it is my monitor, but I would adjust for that. I might suggest also bringing up the shadows a little by masking in lower mountain areas if possible.   Posted: 06/10/2022 18:50:27

Love the blue coloring. Was that natural or did you adjust to create it?   Posted: 06/17/2022 13:40:35

Cool shades of blue. Overall, it's a lovely photo but I do agree with Bill about the blue on the bottom of the mountains. I think you could recover some detail and this would be absolutely spectacular. It is a wonderful capture.   Posted: 06/20/2022 11:26:51

Beautiful mountain scenery. I feel it would be improved if there was a point of interest' Maybe more of the right side or some foreground rocks etc.   Posted: 06/20/2022 12:50:02

After biking the entire Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier many years ago I truly am enjoying looking at your image for this month. Well done and very memorable for me.   Posted: 06/22/2022 13:38:07
