About the Image(s)

Taken at the Huntington Library, San Marino, CA., with my Canon EOS Mark IV, 1/200 sec, f/ 9.0, 45 mm, ISO 100. Put into black and white, and cloned out some distracting greenery and buildings around the image in PS.

I am intrigued by the hint of light on the fingers. Is there any way to bring more of that effect to other areas of the statue? As a silhouette, it works well.   Posted: 11/14/2021 18:33:34

Mercury, the winged god!! I remember when mercury was on the dime.... At first I thought this was cupid but then the helmet gave it away. I like the contrast here. I do think I might clean up the lower corner on viewer's left a bit and the little blip on the bottom. Those don't add anything but I like the photo!   Posted: 11/17/2021 09:53:30

Like the silhouette. I agree with the others that the bottom could be cleaned up a bit. or removed so that he floats.   Posted: 11/17/2021 11:03:41

I don't know much about mythology but this image is well done and is nice and sharp through most of the silhouette. It looks like you did an excellent job of separating the silhouette from the background that I assume was there. I agree with the others that the foot area needs to be cleaned up.   Posted: 11/19/2021 10:24:10

I did clean the background up a lot, but I thought he needed a "base" of support. I'm really interested in hearing you all thought he should float. I can see that as well -- I just hadn't thought of it. Would you cut it off at the bottom of the foot or the bottom of the up and down stand underneath it, or where?   Posted: 11/19/2021 21:14:56

I agree with the others that some work does need to be done with the foot area. It was a good idea to convert it to B&W. I tried a couple of options but as suggested it may look fine with the foot just floating.   Posted: 11/20/2021 14:43:31

But I think this one is even better!   Posted: 11/25/2021 00:30:35

For me, I like Priscilla's version where there is a small base (first example). The other one makes me wonder where the "base" is as I follow the line down and out of the photo.   Posted: 11/24/2021 11:28:53

Nice silhouette and I felt that your original need more of a base to help anchor it. I also like it with just a foot. Both are good comes down to personal taste.   Posted: 11/25/2021 17:39:46
