About the Image(s)

I took this original image while on a ski trip to Banff/Canadian Rockies. This was my first ski trip outside the USA and the people there were very friendly. We took a day off from skiing and decided to travel the Banff-Jasper highway to observe some winter scenery. This glacier was very near the end of the highway and I have entered this a number of times in Photo Travel contests and until just recently it has never been accepted. For this new version I brought the image into Corel Photo Paint Essentials 8. I then applied the Opaque Acrylic painting style to the image. I kind of like the lines that is drew through the images.

John, I much prefer the original; however, I took that one into photoshop and added a slightly different sky. What do you think?   Posted: 06/17/2021 06:09:07

I prefer the original also. The natural scene is much prettier.   Posted: 06/22/2021 22:14:54

The image you reworked is very painterly and artistic. Having never been in an area like this, I like the photo version as well. There is one black rock (viewer's lower left towards the bottom) that I would remove as I don't think it adds in either version. On your artistic version I might suggest adding some other color to the sky. It makes me think of the "Northern Lights". I applaud your experimentation!   Posted: 06/24/2021 13:14:58

My preference is the original version but......kudos for trying a new approach. And congratulations on an acceptance on the recent entry. Judges all have differing opinions and sorry to say "biases". Persistence paid off!   Posted: 06/24/2021 13:46:21

I personally find no interest in the original photo. If I was judging it I would go Eh, and give it a 2. Their is no anchor point, the lighting is hard and the sky is just blue. By doing what you did with it, you have really improved it artistically, you can argue about whether you like what style you used, but that is just a personal preference of each person. So I thought that this image was very nice and and improvement over the original.   Posted: 06/24/2021 18:26:45
