I SEE You by Debbie Perez

June 2021 - I SEE You

About the Image(s)

This tiny least tern chick plays peek-a-boo from the safety of its parent's chest. This was taken with a Canon R5 and a RF 800mm lens. The 800 is a fixed aperture lens of f/11.
The chick isn't much bigger than a golf ball and weighs probably less than a tablespoon. These birds are in a protected colony and I am a good distance away from them. It is extremely difficult to see them even with the 800mm so I was happy when I saw this photo on my computer. This is cropped and I used a custom profile for the R5. Just some basic adjustments were all that was done.

A nice image, but I feel it could sharpened. I used Topaz DeNoise Ai and Topaz Sharpen Ai and this is what I came up with You did a nice job in capturing this image.   Posted: 06/09/2021 15:24:42

I used both of those on this image as well but didn't want to push the sharpening too far. The chick just has a little fuzz at this stage. Topaz makes some great plug-ins!   Posted: 06/09/2021 16:05:17

I agree that some sharpening is needed. Stuart's photo is over sharpened I think. The parent bird looks OK in the original but the baby needs some work.   Posted: 06/22/2021 22:21:07

Very nice capture of an early moment in this chicks life. your lens has done a great job of blurring the background.   Posted: 06/23/2021 10:56:32
