PreFall Sunset Driving down a highway at Vermont, USA by Pinaki Sarkar

November 2021 - PreFall Sunset Driving down a highway at Vermont, USA

About the Image(s)

I took this photo from my car front window from the passenger seat. I had the CPL on. The beauty of the sunset was stunning. However, what the difference here is what I saw with my eyes and what the camera saw much different. Over and above that, in the post processing I applied a software Graduated ND filter to pop open the sky colors. I also did not crop the lower right & left corner and left the little fuzzy effect as captured by the camera hoping that it adds to the broader rhythm of the image. So, in some sense this photo is not a representation of reality at all, it is a recreation of a reality that the photographers saw in his/her mind's eye. So why should we judge photographs by the standards of how realistic it is and what dramatic moment it froze?

Technical: Nikon Z6ii 70mm,ISO:1600, 1/125s, f/3.2

Post Processing:
I cropped the original image to make it tighter. Used Software Graduated ND filter. I shot this hand held from a moving car.

A photograph should convey what you want it to convey, which this one does. All else is secondary. I miss the Vermont fall... we'd drive out almost every weekend.   Posted: 11/01/2021 15:10:12

This image has a dramatic sky, well done, and I like the lighter tones on the trees. Overall a very impactful image.   Posted: 11/03/2021 10:14:29

The car is there to distract people from seeing the flaws of my editing. There are some...I know but didn't get the time to fix it....,😊‘   Posted: 11/12/2021 14:08:54

I like the foliage colours but I would have hoped for more contrasty lighting to boost them.   Posted: 11/25/2021 15:59:47
