Abandoned House by Marcus Miller

June 2021 - Abandoned House

About the Image(s)

This old house is located in a pasture behind a locked gate with Keep Out signs, on a rural country road. The view is north and with all my visits, I have never been satisfied with the sky. It's either blue or white and sunsets do not make a difference. So I tried out PS Sky Replacement.

This is a pano and I cropped to remove extraneous grass and to position the house. Minor adjustments were made in LR. I chose this image because the lilac tree is in bloom.

Beautiful photo. Well composed and thought out. The sky did not burn out . The pattern of the clouds are beautiful. Did you use ND graduated filter ?   Posted: 06/03/2021 14:46:52

This sky is one of Preset skies in PS and I just manipulated it to suit the image.   Posted: 06/04/2021 19:09:47

Lovely scene, light and of course that sky. It does feel just a tad underexposed.   Posted: 06/06/2021 18:04:00

Marcus, I love your composition and editing skills. I'm drawn to broken, abandoned, dilapidated and decaying things, as I find it is a challenge to bring out what remains of their beauty. You've really done that here with your image. The "dead" house is set off beautifully by the grass and the lilac tree, which are very much alive. Your sky looks very natural and I wouldn't have guessed it was inserted. Nicely done!   Posted: 06/10/2021 00:25:46

Full of colour in spite of the muted tones. Great sky and the format you have chosen is perfect. Some fine editing.   Posted: 06/22/2021 14:24:07

The first question I was going to ask before I even read your description was "Is the sky real?" I guess the lighting on the sky doesn't *quite* match that on the farmhouse, but just a little adjustment should do it. All in all, this is a very appealing image.   Posted: 06/24/2021 15:35:00
