Approaching Storm Clingman Dome by Tom McCreary, APSA, MPSA

January 2022 - Approaching Storm Clingman Dome

About the Image(s)

This was taken in the Great Smoky National Park last June. Clingman Dome is the highest point in the park at 6,631 feet, also the highest point in Tennessee and the 3rd highest point east of the Mississippi River. I liked the approaching storm and the layers of mountains in the background. I took it with my Olympus E-M1 Mark II camera and Olympus 15-150mm lens at 20mm (40mm equivalent) at 1/1000th second, f8 and ISO 400. I did a bit of clean up of some small spots that some bugs being blown up by the storm.

Lovely image Tom. You have framed the mountains and the clouds very nicely between the trees. Was there anything in the horizon which would have stopped the viewer from going out of the image? I would not change anything in the image.   Posted: 01/12/2022 10:04:12

Nice capture! You certainly there at the right time! The center of I nterest is the cloud reaching down into the mountains. I think the only improvement for me would be to crop from the top to the dark grey layer of clouds. I   Posted: 01/13/2022 17:06:27

Wonderful image. I really like how it is framed by the trees and the clouds. I really like the foreground; it provides a great perspective. In all honesty, cropping the picture further did not occur to me, but after reading Barbara's comment, I agree.   Posted: 01/13/2022 18:23:19

On your image is showing the dark grey clouds is moving and approaching. It really telling me the storm is coming. On left side of the image showing the scene is normal. I agree Barbara's comment to crop off from top to dark grey cloud,
I would made darker on right side of dark grey clouds to emphasize the coming strong storm.   Posted: 01/17/2022 13:34:53
