Yawning Sleep by Helen Vân

December 2021 - Yawning Sleep

About the Image(s)

When I visited a temple at the afternoon, I saw the lovely scene where the novice were learning sutta, I found out the light shine through window that created so many beautiful eye lights, and I immediately took my camera to capture that scene.

You are quite right that this scene has wonderful highlights and patterns.
Please tell us more about this place and how you came to visit this temple. I lack the knowledge to tell from the studying and the artifacts if it is Buddhist or other. Thank you.
Also can you tell us the camera technical data.
My only photographic suggestion is to lighten a little bit some (not overall because the light patterns are perfect) of the darker areas. Here is a rough suggestion.   Posted: 12/06/2021 17:56:09

Warmly welcome to join our group 07.
Nice shot, single side light source created a beautiful light
patterns. The only thing is lost details in darken area. you can adjust the shadows to retrieve details in Camera Raw.

Welcome to the group. Very nice image with good composition and good lighting, and of course the yawning young man for a center of interest. I understand how an artist wants to present an image, but it does seem a bit dark to me. I used auto levels to lighten the image some.   Posted: 12/11/2021 12:38:58

Hello Helen and welcome to our group. Your composition is strong, your image attracts the viewers' attention and was well timed (yawning subject). I do agree with our group about the image being too dark, causing some loss of detail in the background. I lightened the exposure and protected the highlights to bring more detail. One point I make in processing an image is to look around the edges and eliminate any extraneous detail. In Photoshop I applied the healing brush to eliminate the vase to the right as it pulled my eye away from the subject, the light particles outlining a figure and I toned down the decorative pieces in the right background. Very nice image Helen.   Posted: 12/23/2021 16:38:45

Wow! What luck to be able to catch such a sceen
! Yes I agree that opening the shadows makes the image a bit better. But I liked the mysterious feel of the one you ptresented. The composition , lighting, and mood plus action are superb! You will certainly enhance our group! Welcome!   Posted: 12/30/2021 10:07:02

Helen,
Welcome to the group. What a great image. I, too, would agree that lightening the shadows a bit would help the image without eliminating the mystery. I really enjoy how the light plays with the image and the yawning figure certainly captures one's attention.   Posted: 12/30/2021 16:04:47
