About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in Calaveras Big Tree State Park California. I used Sony A7RII, 24-70mm lens, f/4, 1/160 second.

California has 2 kind of tree Redwood tallest and Sequioas biggest in the world. Calaveras Big Tree State Park is giant Sequioas. The biggest Sequoias tree diameter is 30’, the oldest Sequoias about 3000 years. I used vertical pano function can take the whole tree only, use recular 24mm lens can’t covered.

Having the people in the image shows the size of these giant trees. The composition is good, with the path and the people framed by trees. Thank you also, for showing us a couple of images for reference.   Posted: 07/13/2021 16:10:56

Yes both kinds of redwoods are spectacular! It is often very dark in the shadows with burned out highlights. You captured this well. It is much easier in overcast lighting. You could still take down the highlights and brighten the trees to emphasize your story. You could crop some of the foreground and add more height to the top.   Posted: 07/16/2021 17:06:32

Barbara, Thank you for your comments.
You are right, It is dark in the shadows with burned out highlights. See attached original.
Since I used a 42.4 MP high pixel camera with good HDR.
It's easy to retrieve the details in shade area.   Posted: 07/17/2021 23:24:15

Your composition including the family depicts how majestic, massive and beautiful nature can be. You just want to get off the pathway and walk into the tree on the right Tony. One question, Tony, did you add any structure?   Posted: 07/17/2021 17:18:59

To steal Barbara's description, it is a spectacular image. The inclusion of people accentuates the massive size of the trees. I really like the curve of the footpath and the triangle shaped crevices in the trees.   Posted: 07/24/2021 13:27:04
