Olympic Flame Tulip by Rich Sears

May 2021 - Olympic Flame Tulip

About the Image(s)

Recently I visited our Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens for their annual Tulip show. In processing this Olympic Flame Tulip image with soft winds. I toned down the brightness of the background, cropped and applied Topaz Sharpen Ai. Nikon D850, 105mm f2.8 at f4.8, 1/750 sec., ISO 250.

A nice image of the Flame Tulip. I find my eye going to that blurred tulip on the left side. I would remove it or darken it so it doesn't stand out. I would also add a small white frame around the image, which would allow the flower to stand out (2or 3pix max)   Posted: 05/07/2021 10:20:50

Wow already learning from this post. I will make a note of the suggestions so that I can try them. Thank you for the border suggestion Stuart.   Posted: 05/31/2021 13:28:36

I like the way that the tulip stands out from the background. The blurring of the flower on the left hand side does not affect my view of the image. I do like the idea of a white border.   Posted: 05/14/2021 08:49:36

The flower really stands out from the background. I like the angle that has the center of the flower shown, and the center area is very sharp. I wish that you had a bit more depth of field so that the pedals would be sharper.   Posted: 05/14/2021 10:29:45

It's very nice and interest flower photo. The red and yellow colors work in harmony. I would as Tom's opinion, had more depth of field, so that all the pedals would be sharper, then it will be a beautiful pattern image.   Posted: 05/14/2021 20:51:53

When I first looked at your image I had the impression of a pinwheel. It has motion. But if it is the tulip you wanted I would photograph it twice. Once with a very shallow depth of field to blur the background even more; and once with a very large depth of field for the flower to be all in focus. Then I would combine them. It is a gorgeous subject.   Posted: 05/23/2021 17:23:08
