About the Image(s)
Hiya - just soooo busy here I've hardly had time to get the camera out but image attached. Trying out my new toy when I can - Canon R6ii. It's proving challenging but rewarding on the odd occasions I get everything right! This pic I think is mainly ok - if not very inspired! :)
Canon R6ii.

Just playing and practicing with new toy. Not quite Edward Weston - but gotta start somewhere.

You can't beat Edward Weston for a starting point.
This is well done, and thoughtfully composed.
I have no suggestions, except to say keep shooting like this.   Posted: 03/07/2025 23:10:34

Judith - the image has a fine-art quality to it and of course the use of an odd number only adds to the composition. That said, I'm not sure how many people will take the time to really look at a monochrome of vegetables without VERY dramatic light and contrast - The peppers are artistically intriguing but less engaging in terms of their story or narrative. That said, how you did it was just outstanding   Posted: 03/14/2025 15:31:17
Hi - yes, not as dramatic as I'd hoped I must admit. But above all playing with new toy.... Peppers are now very wrinkly - I wonder what they'd look like redone... We shall see. I might just try! Thanks for comment.   Posted: 03/15/2025 15:51:32
Close ups of 'wrinkled' peppers could be an outstanding subject - hope you share them

Will definitely post if I get anything good out of them! :)   Posted: 03/15/2025 16:01:43
Congratulations on getting your new camera, and getting started using it. I looked the model up, and it is a really great camera. The shape of the peppers and the lighting to show the shape is what really sets this image apart. As Butch said, using an odd number is the correct (at least as we are taught) composition to use, and is good for this image. The stem of the pepper on the right pointing out of the image bothers me, but that is how you needed to place it to match the shape with the other 2 peppers. To correct that, and to have the peppers getting larger from left to right, I reversed the image. I also cropped off the black on the bottom as I think that it distracts. I did darken the stem that is now on the right some. What do you think?   Posted: 03/15/2025 12:49:31
I like that reversal! Nice idea. Not sure it'll ever be a winner but it was an interesting exercise and thanks for suggestion. You may also be right about removing the base. I will mull!:)   Posted: 03/15/2025 15:53:23
Glad that you liked the idea of the reversal.   Posted: 03/15/2025 16:38:36
Fellow Canon shooter here, so congrats on the new camera. This is a nice project to explore settings and range of the camera. Keeping the ISO down with a long exposure gave you nice tone without graininess. The curves of the peppers are a bit unusual and make for nice subjects well arranged. Nicely done.   Posted: 03/19/2025 02:34:19
Yes! the mirrorless canons are a challenge. With my husband very ill, I forgot to enter this month but my photos have improved immensely since I bought the r5 markII! One great thing is the auto ISO really works in all sorts of great ways. You only need to get the shutter speed and f-stop right! The noise reduction and sharpness are fantastic! Your peppers are a kick! You did a fine job! A very impressive study.   Posted: 03/21/2025 03:28:29
:) I'm loving the high(ish) iso possibilities- just soooo useful! Will take a while to get my head around some of it - but really enjoy the sharpness.   Posted: 03/25/2025 15:56:11
Congratulations on your new camera Judith. May it bring much photographic joy...for a long time. Your creativity comes out irrespective of the equipment you use. The concept is in your mind and you did well to bring that to fruition. I guess one needs to think very differently in this genre. I like the image very much. Since the top of left most image which is a bit brighter kept on drawing my attention and to enhance the curves in the other peppers, I played around a bit. I am not used to this so please indulge me. Thank you and once again a super image.   Posted: 03/21/2025 04:07:58
